Refresh rate test

Keep this tab in front for a few seconds. We'll measure how often your screen updates.

How the test works

Frame timing

Browsers draw once per display refresh. We time a few hundred frames, discard hiccups, and snap to the nearest common rate.

Motion clarity

Objects move across the screen at a known speed. Higher refresh rates and faster pixels show sharper edges.

What your results mean

Lower than you expected

Check the refresh rate in your display settings, use a cable and port that support it, and turn off battery saving.

Unstable reading

Variable refresh (G-SYNC, FreeSync, ProMotion) and background work can make the reading move. Close other tabs and try again.

Questions

Why is my 144 Hz monitor running at 60 Hz?

Usually the display setting, the cable (older HDMI can't carry high rates) or the port. Our guide shows how to set it on Windows and macOS.

Can a browser measure refresh rate exactly?

Not exactly. It measures how often the browser draws, which normally matches the display. That's why we label it an estimate.
