Double-click test
Make 20 slow, single clicks. If any arrive as doubles, we'll tell you.
How the test works
What we look for
Two presses of the same button closer together than the threshold (80 ms by default). People can't deliberately click that fast with one finger at a normal pace, so it points to the switch.
Every button
Left, right and middle are tracked separately, so you can test whichever is misbehaving.
What your results mean
0 phantom doubles
Your switch is fine.
1 phantom double
Run the test again. One can be a slip.
2 or more
The switch is very likely worn. Cleaning sometimes helps; replacement or a warranty claim is the reliable fix.
Questions
Why does my mouse double click when I click once?
Usually the metal contact in the switch has worn and bounces. Dust and static can cause it too. See our fix guide.
Can software fix double clicking?
Some mouse apps add debounce time, which can hide the problem. It doesn't repair the switch.
