Mouse lag, stutter or delay

The polling rate test above shows how often your mouse reports. A low or unstable reading, or gaps in the trace, point to the connection.

Start with a quick test

Steps

  1. 1

    Move the wireless receiver closer

Use a USB extension cable to bring the receiver within about 30 cm of the mouse, with a clear line of sight.

  2. 2

Keep it away from USB 3 ports

USB 3 devices and ports can interfere with 2.4 GHz receivers. Use a USB 2 port or move the receiver away.

  3. 3

    Charge or replace batteries

Many mice reduce performance when the battery is low.

  4. 4

Clean the sensor and use a good surface

Blow dust off the sensor. Glass and glossy surfaces confuse many sensors; a mouse pad helps.

  5. 5

    Check the polling rate setting

Gaming mice set their rate in their app. 1000 Hz is a common choice.

  6. 6

    Plug in the laptop

Power-saving modes can reduce USB and Bluetooth responsiveness.

Still not working?

  • If only some apps lag, the cause may be the app's frame rate or your display's refresh rate rather than the mouse.
