How to look better on video calls

Good light matters more than an expensive camera. Use the lighting score and framing guide in the test above while you adjust.

Stappen

  1. 1

    Face your light

Sit facing a window or put a lamp behind your screen. Light from the front makes skin look even and lets the camera keep its frame rate up.

  2. 2

    Avoid light behind you

A bright window behind you turns you into a silhouette. Turn around or close the blinds.

  3. 3

Raise the camera to eye level

Stack books under your laptop until the camera is level with your eyes.

  4. 4

    Frame yourself

Turn on the framing guide above. Eyes on the upper third, a little space above your head.

  5. 5

    Warm or cool light consistently

Mixing daylight and warm bulbs gives patchy colours. Use one kind of light where you can.

Werkt het nog steeds niet?

  • A cheap clip-on ring light or a desk lamp bounced off a wall makes a big difference.
