Blurry webcam: how to get a sharp picture
Most blurry webcam images are caused by a dirty lens, too little light, or an app sending low resolution. The test above shows the resolution your camera really delivers.

Stappen
- 1
Clean the lens
Wipe it with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Laptop lenses collect fingerprints when you open the lid.
- 2
Add light
In dim light cameras use slower exposures and more noise reduction, which looks soft. Face a window or a lamp.
- 3
Check the distance
Fixed-focus webcams are sharpest from about 50 cm to a few metres. Sit back a little.
- 4
Choose a higher resolution
In your call app, turn on HD video if it has the option (in Zoom: Settings › Video › HD). Calls on slow connections are sent at lower quality anyway.
- 5
Use the camera's own software
Some webcams have autofocus or sharpness settings in their maker's app.
Werkt het nog steeds niet?
- Compare in the test above at 1080p and 720p. If both are soft, the lens or sensor may be the limit.
