How to choose the right microphone in your browser

Browsers usually use your system's default microphone, but you can choose a different one for websites. Use the device list in the test above to confirm which mic is active.

    Chrome and Edge

    Open Settings, search for Microphone, open the microphone site settings and pick your device from the drop-down. Sites that let you choose a mic in their own settings override this.

    Firefox

    Firefox asks which microphone to use when a site requests access. To change it later, click the permissions icon in the address bar, remove the permission, and reload to be asked again.

    Safari

    Safari uses the input selected in System Settings › Sound › Input. Change it there, then reload the page.

    Inside the website

    Most call sites have a microphone menu next to the mute button. That choice applies only to that site.
