Microphone not working in Microsoft Teams

Teams uses its own device choice, separate from your system default. Confirm your mic works with the test above, then align Teams with it.

    Choose the mic in Teams

    Open Settings and more (…) › Settings › Devices (in some versions Settings › Devices under your profile) and pick your microphone under Audio devices.

    Make a test call

    In the same Devices section, choose Make a test call. Teams records a short message and plays it back.

    Check mute

    In a meeting, check the microphone button isn't muted, and that the meeting organiser hasn't disabled attendee mics.

    Allow Teams at the system level

    On Windows, allow desktop apps in Settings › Privacy & security › Microphone. On a Mac, switch on Microsoft Teams in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.

    Teams in a browser

    Allow the microphone for the Teams site using the icon next to the address bar, then rejoin.

  • Sign out of Teams and back in.
  • Clear the Teams cache by quitting Teams fully and restarting your computer.
