Mouse scroll wheel jumping or scrolling the wrong way
The scroll test above counts steps that go the opposite way. A few reversed steps while scrolling one direction is the classic sign of a dirty or worn wheel encoder.

Begin met een snelle test
Stappen
- 1
Blow out the wheel
Unplug the mouse. Blow compressed air into the gaps on both sides of the wheel while rolling it.
- 2
Check free-spin mode
Some mice switch between notched and free-spinning scrolling with a button behind the wheel. Free-spin can overshoot.
- 3
Adjust scroll settings
On Windows, Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Mouse sets how many lines each notch scrolls. On a Mac, System Settings › Mouse sets scrolling speed and natural scrolling.
- 4
Wireless: fresh batteries, closer receiver
Weak batteries and distant receivers cause erratic input.
Werkt het nog steeds niet?
- If cleaning doesn't help, the encoder is worn. Replacement or a warranty claim is the reliable fix.
