Stop microphone echo on calls

If others hear themselves when you're on a call, your microphone is picking up their voice from your speakers. The fix is to stop sound leaking from speakers to mic.

Passaggi

  1. 1

    Use headphones

Headphones stop your speakers feeding back into your microphone. This fixes echo almost every time.

  2. 2

    Turn on echo cancellation

Most call apps do this automatically. Make sure you haven't enabled an "original sound" or "music mode" that disables it.

  3. 3

    Lower your speaker volume

The louder your speakers, the harder echo cancellation works. Lower them and move the mic away from them.

  4. 4

Use only one device in the call

Two devices in the same room in the same meeting (a laptop and a phone) cause loud echo and feedback. Leave the call on one of them.

  5. 5

    Soften the room

Hard, empty rooms reflect sound. Curtains, a rug or a bookshelf reduce reverb that sounds like echo.

Ancora non funziona?

  • Use the "Call vs raw" recording above to hear whether your browser's echo cancellation is working.
  • Ask the person who hears the echo to check their setup: the echo usually comes from the other side.
