Dead pixels vs stuck pixels: what's the difference?

Every pixel is made of red, green and blue sub-pixels. A dead pixel stays dark on every colour. A stuck pixel stays lit in one colour. Find them with the full-screen test above.

Passaggi

  1. 1

    Clean the screen first

Dust and specks look exactly like pixel faults. Wipe with a dry microfibre cloth.

  2. 2

    Step through the colours

Open the dead pixel test and go through every colour. A dot that's black on white is dead. A dot that stays red, green, blue or white on black is stuck.

  3. 3

    Try to revive stuck pixels

Stuck pixels sometimes respond to rapid colour changes. Use the stuck pixel fixer (it flashes: read the warning).

  4. 4

    Check the warranty

Many manufacturers publish a pixel policy saying how many faults qualify for repair. Take a photo and note the position.

Ancora non funziona?

  • Dead pixels can't be revived by software.
  • A line of dead pixels usually points to a panel or cable fault, not individual pixels.

Domande

Can a dead pixel spread?

Usually not. Single pixel faults normally stay put. Spreading lines or patches suggest physical damage.

Should I press on a stuck pixel?

We don't recommend it. Pressure can damage the panel and void the warranty.
