Microphone not working in Zoom

If people in a Zoom meeting can't hear you, check the mute state and which microphone Zoom is using before anything else. Test your mic here first to confirm it works outside Zoom.

    Unmute and join audio

    In a meeting, make sure you've joined audio (Join Audio) and the microphone icon isn't crossed out. Your host may also have muted you.

    Pick the microphone in Zoom

    Click the arrow next to the microphone button and choose the right mic. Outside a meeting, open Settings › Audio.

    Test and set the level

    In Settings › Audio, use Test Mic. If you sound quiet, turn off Automatically adjust microphone volume and raise the slider.

    Allow Zoom at the system level

    On a Mac: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone, switch on zoom.us. On Windows: Settings › Privacy & security › Microphone, allow desktop apps.

    Close other call apps

    Teams, Discord or a browser meeting can hold the microphone. Quit them and rejoin.

  • Leave and rejoin the meeting.
  • Update Zoom from the profile menu: **Check for Updates**.
  • Try joining from the browser to rule out a problem with the app.
